Gas prices, "suck it Trebec"
So with the cost of gas escalating like you wouldnt believe I have started to consider buying a better gas mileage car.
background: I own (paid cash for) 2004 Saturn Vue 5 speed. I get average of 25mpg. it cost me over $50 the other day to fill up. I can not believe that I am spending nearly that much every week to drive to work. I was thinking about it the other day. I spend all this money on gas, and why? So I can drive to WORK!! Ok so I chose to live 25 miles from work. But I like where I live and like that it takes me a little while to get home. Its a nice wind down period.
So with a paid off car I can keep it and buy a new better gas mileage car, or sell it and put it towards a better gas mileage car.
I am eyeing a Smart car . We are talking about a commute car mainly. If I am going to be travelling, then this would be the car. Shopping and other "chores" would require the use of the Vue. So for about 15K you can get a pretty pimped out Smart car. We are talking 33/41 MPG. So with a average of 37 MPG you are looking at 300 miles per 8 gallon gas of gas. That is $28 per week on gas!!! That is perfect for me to commute to work with room to spare.
So the dilemma. Do I keep my paid for car since it would be nice to have a car that has decent room in size to move large items or sell it and put the $ towards the new better gas mileage car? I guess it depends on what my bank will give me for a car loan. I am going to check with BoA and see what 15K car loan would run me every month.
Here are some pics.

My 40-45 mpg Golf TDI drives like a sports car with more room...
This is what i'd really hold out for if i was you:
VK Diesel Hybrid
70 MPG, and can run on bio-diesel that is available in co-ops around town for under $3.00 per gallon...or you can just make yourself in your garage.
I agree that is impressive. but it is strictly a concept car. and from reading comments. they have thrown this type of concept car out there before with no production. that being said its nice. but diesal is worse for the enviornment than regular gas. I would consider a bio diesel if I had a home to make my own.
but for the 15K for the Smart, I dare anyone to find a car that gets as good gas mileage.
I just paid 52.50 for a 15 gallons yesterday, the price is rising. Its getting time for me to make a move.
